Chaakoo Glasgow
Hey Foodwalas….The Foodwala Jeeajunt (family) were on the hunt for Hypebeast shopping in Glasgow yesterday, it certainly is a hungry business.
We came across Chaakoo, which ominously means a knife in Urdu and we decided to check out how this modest Irani Cafe compares to Dishoom in London and Edinburgh.
Since my eyes to stomach ratio, is 4:1 I always order way too much and Mrs Foodwala always moans that I order for 10 strapping foodwalas.
We ordered a selection of small plates, firstly we I will talk about the small plates we liked, This Palak Paneer was delicious, the Palak was a nice smooth blend of Sarson (mustard) and spinach and the paneer was soft like tofu and flavoursome.
The Seekh Kebabs were also delicious, the lamb mince was ground twice to give the kebabs a smooth creamy texture and delicately spiced.
Now for the less good parts of the meal
The Dum Lamb Biryani was very dry and the point of the Dum is to keep the ingredients hot and moist and the rice and lamb soaks up the jus thus leaving with moist fragrant rice and lamb that breaks up at the slightest persuasion from the fork.
The garlic nan must have been left under the hot lamp for too long as it was cold and chewy.
Another downside to the stock Dishoomesque Irani cafe decor was the chart music being played which did bit play well with the surroundings.
Mokee Foodwala also commented that Chaakoo felt less pretentious than Dishoom and the staff were also more friendly and down to earth.
In conclusion, definitely better than Dishoom Edinburgh
