Steak Inn, Glasgow
Hey, Foodwala’s … I am a sucker for the plucky underdog, Can you remember Eddie “The Eagle” Edwards who came last in the Ski Jumping discipline at the 1988 Calgary Winter Olympics, he captured the hearts and minds of the world by his sheer will and tenacity. I bet you cant name who came first!
Or can you remember the Jamaican bobsleigh team “cool runnings” who also competed at the Calgary Winter Olympics and again came last, however, they too captured the hearts by being completely endearing yet determined.
The reason I pointed out the plucky underdogs was that technically they were not very good at their sport however they won over the public with their passion, love, tenacity and good humour, this is also the case with Steak Inn.
The Steak Inn is located in little Romania in the southside, technically it was many flaws however it is endearing with its give it a go attitude.
The menu is not the most comprehensive steak menu I have come across, nor does it point out the source of the Beef or from where it was reared, whether it was Aberdeen Angus, or USDA or wagyu,
The Foodwala family kicked off the proceedings with the Spiced Lamb Chops, the Lamb Chops was generously proportioned and were spiced so there was a gentle kick to them and the accompanying sauce was spicy yet tangy.
The lamb chops did not require the sauce in my opinion.
As you know by now, my bugbear is the double-jointed Chicken wings, It feels like the chefs have not taken the care nor the attention to split the wings.
However, moving on from my foibles the wings were slightly underspiced but once dipped into the accompanying sauce it made up the spiciness and then some.
I ordered the chargrilled Chicken Steak with spicy rice and potato wedges.
The Chicken steak was grilled without losing its juiciness and the rice was fresh and lightly spiced, the mushroom sauce had a pleasant moreish umami taste which went well with the chargrilled chicken steak
Bakree Foodwalee opted for the chargrilled Chicken fillet burger, I was reliably informed that the chicken was lovely and moist and the cheese topping was just right. The brioche butter bun was soft yet buttery.
The Beefeater Chips was a nice touch.
The burger was simple yet pleasant.
We were informed by Shahid that the Steak Inn was not open to the public yet and it was a soft opening to iron out any teething challenges, we appreciated that they accommodated us and the service was swift and friendly
In conclusion, The Steak Inn was not the most technically proficient steakhouse I have been to however its heart is in the right place and it was catering for a mainly Asian clientele who are not savvy to a dry aged marbled Japanese Wagyu ribeye.
